September astrology overview

I believe the planets are always guiding us with gifts and messages, little sign posts and lessons in the University of life. So what are the astrology gifts of September? It’s going to get hot and intense and possibly a little complicated. September starts with the Sun in Virgo and Mercury, planet of communication, also in Virgo retrograde. Mercury retrogrades always alarm people as they are well known for causing apparent communication chaos. I always have trust in the Universe and know that in a way everything is a gift. Although it can feel like life is being thrown into the air with a retrograde, or we fall headlong into the past, it’s actually just a spring clean of our life. A time to take stock and to shake things up to make the future more clear. Whatever is going on for you until the 12th should ultimately be for your higher good – or at least the growth of your soul. Life is a constant cycle of life death and rebirth but it’s good to remember that within this cycle everything is also eternal.

On the 3rd there’s a lovely line-up of planets involving mars and Venus together in the sign of Libra, in trine (harmonious) aspect to Neptune in Aquarius. This is a great for all relationships but especially as a romantic mood setter – Neptune sees the best and forgets the rest with its positive soft-centred focus, while mars and Venus are like yin and yang combined, seeking connection through bridge-building Libra. The past is healed and soft love is encouraged by the planets. If someone has annoyed you it is a fabulous time to forgive and move on.

The new moon for September takes place on the 8th in Virgo. This is the new moon for setting intentions about sifting and sorting through the details of plans and projects; and remember that Virgo energy loves to bring order to chaos, even when it’s an overflowing in-tray or inbox. You get the chance to make a commitment to completion! You might also discover that paying attention to details and not putting things off actually gives you more freedom.

Pisceans might notice gains and expansion from the 9th, when lucky planet Jupiter returns by retrograde into their sign, and also on the 9th Venus moves into mysterious Scorpio, encouraging relationships to take a step into the unknown, and to get comfortable with working from instinct and intuition. It also breathes a new intensity to connections with others; no more fears of rocking the boat, the power to make waves is too strong to ignore. Venus in Scorpio will also tickle your naughty side. Affairs, seductions and out and out temptation taunt you to action. If you have been holding off , your desire may overtake you. Venus in Scorpio can make you succumb to obsession. It can also make you jealous or out and out lustful. Finding a balance with this can be tricky but it can also open your up to a host of sensual mysteries.

As if we need more fuel to the erotic fire, on the 15th Mars joins Venus in Scorpio, which means yin and yang are now smouldering with secret passions, while eyeing each other suspiciously for hidden agendas. On the 18th there’s a conjunction (planets standing together) of Jupiter and Uranus in the sign of Pisces, which speaks of lucky breaks and wonderful twists of fate. However Scorpio and Pisces are the most emotional signs of the Zodiac so most of us are going to be affected by a huge emotion soaring to the surface. By the 22nd sun in Virgo stands opposite this Jupiter/Uranus combo, so Virgo can expect the unexpected in relationships, Pisces has light shed on love matters, and we all feel the benefit of a little stirring up of romantic situations.

Avoid – Jealousy, anger or accusation as well as the temptation to snoop.

Encourage – An exploration of your desires. Forgiveness and creative expression.

A fabulously full moon on the 23rd is bang on 0 degrees of Aries, just as the sun moves into the sign of Libra (signalling the moment of the autumn equinox in northern hemispheres). This is big energy and therefore big news for everyone, (especially of course Aries and Libra) along the theme of balancing priorities. Be ready for an intense desire to be impulsive to create balance and the need to speak your truth.
